How we verify venues
When you see the Insured badge on a MustAIM venue, here's exactly what that means — and just as importantly, what it doesn't.
What we check
Before a venue can take bookings on MustAIM, whoever claims it has to go through a verification process:
- We confirm who they are. A real identity check, done for us by Stripe (the same company that processes payments on this site) — not something we invented ourselves.
- We confirm they're actually connected to the venue. For limited companies, we cross-check their verified name against the venue's registered directors on the UK's public companies register. For sole traders and smaller partnerships, we review documents like a business bank statement or an HMRC letter.
- We confirm they have insurance. We ask for a current public liability insurance certificate, and we check it names a real insurer, a policy number, and a date that hasn't passed.
If all of that checks out, the venue gets the Insured badge.
What we don't check
We do not check the amount, scope, or exclusions of a venue's insurance cover. We don't know, and don't record, whether they're covered for £1 million or £10 million, or what specific activities are included.
That's deliberate. Assessing whether a level of cover is adequate for a specific activity is a judgement for the venue and their insurance broker to make — not us. If we recorded a cover amount and said nothing about whether it was enough, that would be worse than not recording it at all. So we simply confirm the policy exists and is current, and stop there.
If the specific level of cover matters to you, ask the venue directly — they can tell you.
What the badge doesn't mean
The Insured badge is not a safety rating, a recommendation, or an endorsement of how a venue runs its games. It confirms two narrow things: we've verified who's behind this listing, and they currently hold liability insurance. It says nothing about the quality of the site, the standard of marshalling, or anything else about the day you'll have there.
If a venue doesn't have the badge
It might just not have gone through verification yet — plenty of good venues are still working through it. Absence of the badge isn't a warning sign by itself; it just means we can't currently vouch for the two things above.
